It just boils down to elbow grease. You have to do the time on this one. Lots of patting with a wet cloth. The easier way would be to use a carpet cleaning machine, but as you said, that costs more. When you think you have all the shampoo out, make sure you dab out the wetness. It's likely to have gone through to the padding underneath, and if you don't get this as dry as possible, you can get mold. You can also put a fan on the spot to help dry it. BTW, you will have a clean spot on the carpet, so you may have to rent the machine after all to get the rest of the carpet clean. Sorry.

How do I get hair shampoo out of the carpet?
A bottle of shampoo (Suave Refreshing Waterfall Mist, to be exact) spilled onto my carpet. I've scraped as much of the shampoo out of the carpet as I can, but I don't know how to get the rest of it out of the carpet without just making a huge, soapy spot in the middle of my living room. Is there a way to get it out without making a huge soapy spot, and without spending the money to rent a carpet cleaner? How do I get hair shampoo out of the carpet?
