How did people wash their hair before shampoo was invented?

I believe soap was used to wash hair.

Confirmed:

During the early stages of shampoo, English hair stylists boiled soap in water and added herbs to give the hair health and fragrance. Kasey Hebert was the first known maker of shampoo, and the origin is currently attributed to him. He sold his first shampoo, ';Shaempoo'; in the streets of his home, London, England.

In the old days, traditionally shampoo is made from rice husk and rice straw (merang). The husks and straws are burned into ash, and the ashes (which have alkaline properties) are mixed with water to form lather. The ashes and lather are scrubbed into the hair. However, this makes the hair dry. Therefore, after shampooing, Indonesians apply coconut oil to remoisten the hair. (See: Kompas - In Indonesian).

Originally soap and shampoo were very similar products; both were often made from surfactants, a type of detergent. Shampoo became the logical evolution of personal hygiene products, and targeted the specific needs of hair and not the body in general. Through out the course of the 20th century a number of specifically designed shampoos were released that gently and effectively cleaned a variety of different hair types. Now, synthetic surfactants are primarily used in shampoo. How did people wash their hair before shampoo was invented?
One way to make shampoo is through the process of saponification where they take a fat or oil and turn it into soap. The native americans used animal fat to make soap, so did some europeans. But that was changed when the invention of a seed presser that expels oils out of seeds such as olive, avocado, coconut. But I think before shampoo was made people washed their hair with water and oil.How did people wash their hair before shampoo was invented?
Clay has been used to wash hair.

The Indians have soapnut which they grind up and then mix to a paste. It is a wonderful cleanser and leaves the hair very silky.

Bonnets were traditionally worn to keep the hair clean for longer. Muslims and some Christian sects keep women's hair covered, which also helps keep it clean.
in history of fashion we were told that they shaved their heads and wore wigs because they had lice so bad that's why they started wearing fur so they could get the lice to be on the fur instead of their bodies...it was called a flea fur which was a rabbits foot then bigger pieces
Well according to my French teacher, French people did not bathe, and that's why they created cologne; so they would smell good. They also cut their hair very short so they would not get lice, hence the giant Marie Antoinette wigs.
In my aunt's time, she lived in the Philippines [she was born in 1934] and she said she washed her hair with water and a bar of soap. Before that, I'm not sure.
They didn't that's why they wore wig's at least those that could afford to do so.

The poor had to sell their hair or leave it unwashed.
In the early 50's my grandma used to wash my hair with carbolic soap, sitting in a tin bath in front of the fire!
They just didn't wash it.

In fact there are some people now that never, ever wash their hair.

nothing they just bathed in rivers and had lice and nits(i think thats how you spell it)
soap, soap has been arond since the Roman era.

Is there such thing as hair darkening shampoo?

I have dark blond hair, but i'd like it to be a little more brunette (right now its sort of an in-between color). I don't want to dye it and have to deal with roots. Which products have you tried, and do they work?Is there such thing as hair darkening shampoo?
Not that I know...though I highly doubt there is such a shampoo. Is there such thing as hair darkening shampoo?
there's no DARKENING shampoo, but if you dye your hair then you can but color enhancement which keeps the color in, so it doesn't wash out or fade (which happens a lot if you hair is blonde and your dying it a drastically darker color.)
there is a pantene shampoo that I have used and all it does is help maintain your natural color. I don't think by using the shampoo for another hair color will do anything.
I have used this color enhancing shampoo and conditioner. Yes it has helped !

I hoped I helped ^_^

  • If i use hair growth shampoo how less will i have to wait til my hair grows out?

ok so im growing out my hair four inches which takes probbly bout 4 months.... if i start using hair growth shampoo or some hair growth vitamins.. how less should i have to wait ?If i use hair growth shampoo how less will i have to wait til my hair grows out?
You just have to be patient and let your hair grow on it's own time. Keep it healthy and try to resist the urge to cut it.If i use hair growth shampoo how less will i have to wait til my hair grows out?
Those don't work. You can't grow your hair faster, So your hair will grow just like it does now.
Sad to tell you, won't be any less. Same time.

    There's really no way of accelerating your hair growth... Even though many products out there do claim to help your hair grow faster they just ';Promote Regular hair growth';

There are many things you might be doing that might slow down your regular hair growth (Such as a poor diet, smoking, stress, lack of sleep, etc.) so that's a good way to start... Here's a few things you can do to get your hair growing again. NATURAL things...

-Start eating many fruits and veggies (Especially the dark ones which are higher in Anti-Oxidants that work wonders for the health of hair)

-Cut down on stress and try to relax, start or continue exercising and get at least 8 hours of sleep a day. The more you stress about your hair the less it will grow, as ironic as it sounds stress automatically slows down hair growth.

-Get a multivitamin specifically for that (GNC has a very good Hair, skin and nails formula, but take into consideration that these won't work by themselves as long as you are not carrying a healthy diet.

Regular hair growth is a process just because hair growth is the first thing that the body slows down in order to keep energy for much more important organs in your body like your brain, lungs and heart, there's no miracle shampoo that will give you 5 inches of hair in 1 week, but there's many ways to definitely make it better as I mentioned.

    Hope this helps.

OH AND BY THE WAY... Prenatal vitamins DO NOT help your hair grow faster. The only reason why preggo ladies hair grows super-fast has to do with their hormones, not the vitamin itself.

John Freida blonde hair shampoo, does it contain dye?

I have natural blonde hair. I would like it a tad lighter but i dont want it to be bleach blonde. Do you know if this shampoo has any dye in it? I dont want to add any colour to it as i'd like to keep the natural look.

it enhances the natural blonde and makes it brighter..xJohn Freida blonde hair shampoo, does it contain dye?
If it did you would be screaming when you washed your hair*. It may enhance your blond hair, but i don't think there is actually dye in the shampoo, some people put dye in shampoo, but i don't think manufacturers make it that way.
No, I Use It And It Makes It A Little bit Blonder:):) x

Please be serious and don't give answers that are useless and not answering the question. The best hair straightening shampoo and conditioner?
    1. I really like tresemme thermal recovery shampoo and conditioner, it makes your hair really soft and has definitely prevented a lot of damage.

    2. Of course they do, why the **** not? It would look like your hair does when it's really straightened, and of course it does. Guy's hair is no different than girl's hair, genetically. The best hair straightening shampoo and conditioner?
1.) I actually just a hydrating shampoo/conditioner combination with a straighten serum. Herbal Essences shampoo/conditioner (Hello Hydration) and the serum is Glossing Polish by Proclaim (Color and heat protection). It's in a red bottle and I found it at Sally's. Smells great and works excellently.

2.) No clue what rebonding is. Sorry.

Will hair plus shampoo and conditioner really make my hair grow faster?

i read online that hair plus shampoo and conditioner can make your hair grow longer in only 28 days! is this true? does it really only take 28 days to get longer? and on average, how much longer? Will hair plus shampoo and conditioner really make my hair grow faster?
I dont think soWill hair plus shampoo and conditioner really make my hair grow faster?
Don't think so. but putting your hair in ponytails pulls the hair out of the skull.
No, your hair grows from the roots, not the ends.
i dont know but if u try it %26amp; it work i would love to use it

of course dear we are all the same there is nothing

like long hair i had my hair cut for about tow years

%26amp; it still look the same so hard to grow faster ,

first u use a good hair shampoo %26amp; use all kind to

condition it then eat sea food with lemon its good for the hair

%26amp; tablets like hair %26amp; nail %26amp; there is the last

solution %26amp; the best called minoxidil 5% drops they are

like the best i used it until now am in da 4 forth

month u should use them for 6 month then u stop

using it twice a day u start after 6 month to use

it for 1 time aday and after a week 1 time every tow

days %26amp; less until u stop be careful u cant stop it once .
Nothing makes you make your hair grow faster in a matter of days. It takes time, usually a month or more to see your hair grow half an inch or more. It all depends on your genes and your type of hair. Don't believe fads like that; just use a good shampoo and conditioner, and eat a diet full of antioxidants to promote hair growth. That's all you need.
The only thing to make your hair grow faster is the way you eat. nothing you put ON your hair will help- hair grows from the roots, not the hair itself. I have tried TONS of things to get my hair to grow faster. There is this one pill that you can take that makes your hair %26amp; nails grow faster and stronger. It's called Biotin. You can buy it at Target for less than $3. It takes about 2 weeks to start to see results. Hope that helps!! =]
Even without washing, your hair will get longer if you wait 28 days.

  • If you wash your hair with shampoo that is not colour resistant will the colour wash out of your hair?

I died my hair a colour i really dont like if i wash it with a regular shampoo that does not have any colour protector in it will it come out.If you wash your hair with shampoo that is not colour resistant will the colour wash out of your hair?
depending on the color, if you had to lighten your hair to obtain the color if the color is bright or temporary then yes it will wash out more quickly. if its black dye i wouldnt really worry about it it would not wash out as easily.

I am only 22 and I am loosing hair, what shampoo is it best to use in this situation? What could be causes for this? What are some tips that will help me reduce the hair loss?I am loosing hair, what shampoo is it best to use in this situation?
Nioxin. You have to buy it at a salon. Also, a bad diet, certain medicines, and being under a lot of stress can cause hair loss. Try and stop that if that is a problem, and see a doctor if this goes on for more than a month or soI am loosing hair, what shampoo is it best to use in this situation?
    vitamin b may also help.
use ny mild shampoo, like ghonson's baby shampoo,it will work ,n u will hv less hair fall
as they say , it's normal to loose 100 strands a day, we have new hair growing to replenish that.
    some type of strethning shampoo..

What's the best hair lengthening shampoo & conditioner?

I have shoulder-length hair, and need to know what's the best shampoo and conditioner to help grow my hair.

What brand? What's the best hair lengthening shampoo %26amp; conditioner?
The absolute best is the new brand called Organix. It has organic active ingredients and is sulfate free so it wont dry out your hair, plus...it smells awesome! They have different collections for different hair types which are all amazing. You can get Organix at Target, Albertsons, Kroger, Duane Reade, Safeway, etc. You'll love it!

    http://www.organixhair.com/

.What's the best hair lengthening shampoo %26amp; conditioner?
SUAVE is definitely the best kind of shampoo and conditioner to make your hair grow i use it everyday on my hair and my hair is down to my butt !!
I don't think products can make your hair grow longer! Eating healthy seems to contribute the most to hair growth in my opinion.
Garnier Long %26amp; Strong seems to really help my hair to grow :) Give it a try!
If a shampoo or conditioner claims to 'LENGTHEN' your hair, don't buy it. The only way for your hair to truly legthen is to grow. Shampoos and conditioners might be able to strengthen and add body (temporarily), which in turn may make your hair look longer.

The best thing you can do is keep your hair it the best condition you can. Find a good deep conditioner that is protein based. Hair is 99% protein, so if you add protein to it, you can only be replenishing what it lost.

Another tip for growing out hair. Make sure to keep it trimmed. The longer hair is exposed to heat, cold, chemicals, etc. the more damaged it becomes. When its damaged, it tends to split. That is what is called split ends. Once a hair shaft splits, it tends to keep splitting until the end it cut off. Trimming off split ends regularly will actually make your hair seem to grow faster.
Shampoos and conditioners don't make your hair grow, they just make it stronger. Just eat health stuff, vitamins and such.
Actually, taking multi-vitamins will work better than any gimmick shampoos for growing hair.
Any prenatal vitamins should work wonders for your hair and nails. Don't believe shampoos or conditioners that say they'll grow your hair.

How many times a week are you supposed to wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner?

    Well condition everyday

    its a must!

    Shampoo, well it varies.

I myself, shampoo every other dayHow many times a week are you supposed to wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner?
As others have said, it depends on your hair type. If you have super oily hair, then wash it everyday. If you have normal or dry hair, then wash it every other day to let the natural oils from your scalp nourish your hair. How many times a week are you supposed to wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner?
it depends on your hair type. You can wash it everyday but this may dry out your hair try everyother day. but if you use a lot of styling products you may want to do it everyday.
it depends on ur hair type and if u have dandruff or other hair conditions but at the minimum shampoo evryday n comdition a minimum of 3 times a week
yeah it depends on the hair type and style, but a lot of the time if you overdo it with the conditioner your hair is greasy. however, even though this sounds crazy, if you put baby powder in the greasier parts of your hair it absorbs the oils. i do this all the time.
Depends on your hair type. I for one have straight, sometimes wavy hair.I wash it 3 times a week with shampoo and conditioner on the same day.I wash it more in a week if I've done a lot of sports.
    4 to 5.
Most people tend to wash there hair every other day. When shampooing sometimes it is necessary to repeat. and then when conditioning you could leave it in for 3-5 minutes before washing it out. Over washing your hair can make your hair become greasy.

If your problem is male pattern baldness, there is nothing you can do, it is inevitible. Look at your Dad or other members of the family, Grand parents on either side? Are any of the males bald, or went bald early?

If you are young, whatever you do, do not get into the trap of trying to hide it, you'll find it harder later to reveal the truth as it gets worse, and end up with a flap. This is from someone who almost fell into that trap. Then one day I just had it cut short. I'd already started developing (without truly realising how obvious it looked) a bit of a front flap, like a big fringe. Best thing I ever did, cutting it short. Suddenly I didn't care if it was a windy day, didn't walk around constantly rearranging it.

If it is alopecia, see a doctor, it can be treated.

You don't need to cut it really short as in Grant Mitchel and look like a thug if you don't want, just neat and tidy, with no obvious cover up.

No shampoo can stop baldness. Hair that you can see is dead, shampoo just cleans it. The action of massage might stimulate natural oils and condition it, but won't stop it falling out.

If you are young, don't consider a transplant. It's a con (strong word, it sort of works, but there's a catch). They will replace the lost bit, and then later as it continues to recede elsewhere, you will need to go back again and again. Or end up with two bits of hair at the temples and none on top. They don't tell you that. (No I didn't do that).

Sorry to be so blunt. You'll have to learn to live with it.

    Good luck.
if you are losing hair it may be in the genes. look at the men on your mother's side of the family. does loss of hair run along their line? if not, i would consider consulting a doctor.
head and shoulder, and massage regularly with olive oil
hair genesis worked for me. 2 gelcaps per day %26amp; you can order their shampoo....1-800-736-0729 good luck
Use Amway Satinique shampoo 2 in 1n for better result
losing hair=weak hair follicle, maybe hard water issue.

I think you should check out www.biolustreflorida.com

I just went to their launch party and had my hair done, free as a demo. Its amazing, my hair was breaking off and flying away. I will always always buy this stuff. Its awesome, I saw a difference as soon as she rinsed my hair. I have no damage anymore, its unbelievable! No more split-ends, its like my hair is NEW! I love it!

it may also due to dandruff, tension.
head and shoulder is the best shampoo

What's the best shampoo/hair product against humidity?

My hair goes all frizzy and ugly when it's humid. Any suggestions? What's the best shampoo/hair product against humidity?
John Frieda's Friz-Ease moisture spray it looks like hair spray but blocks out humidity. You can find it at Target or Wal-Mart or drugstore. What's the best shampoo/hair product against humidity?
I prefer Frizz Ease smoothing serum. Just a little bit will smooth down fly-aways and frizz and give your hair a sleek shine. Also try to get products that do not have alcohol in them, which can make hair frizz up.
Graham Webb, I think its something like intensive moisture, its super dry where I live too and it does wonders!! You can also get their shine balm which makes it shiny with 0 flyaways
Pantene seems to work. Any moisturizing shampoo and moisturizing conditioner
    Whale semen
Biosilk - Silk Therapy! great stuff and it smells awsome!
Physzique or Pantene Pro-V or Garnier Fructise

What do you guys think is the best hair shampoo for ethnic hair, or just mixed hair.?

It depends on what texture your hair is. I have three sisters and each of us have different texture hair. My hair is coarser and tighter curls, so prefer Pantene products, primairly deep conditioning. When I wash it, I comb the conditioner in with my fingers and it helps get rid of the tangles...leave it in for a few mintues, rinse, and then style your hair with whatever product you use. I don't use a comb or brush when styling so it leaves the curls intact, instead of combing them frizzy. If u have naturally straight hair and u use curly hair shampoo does it make ur hair curly?

to make it more clearer.---%26gt; u have naturally straight hair and u have curly hair shampoo. if u use that do u get curly hair? ive heard ppl say that. is it true?If u have naturally straight hair and u use curly hair shampoo does it make ur hair curly?
My hair is also naturally straight. I've tried the curling shampoos and found they brought out a bit more wave in my hair, but no ringlet curls by any means. These shampoos are great tools to aid when you want to wear your hair curly. Wash as directed and scrunch or curl your hair.If u have naturally straight hair and u use curly hair shampoo does it make ur hair curly?
No. All of those shampoos, lotions, etc that 'guarantee' some desired result for the person attaining it, are bogus. If you want curly hair, your best solution would be to visit your hair stylist and get a perm, or try curling your hair starting at the roots, and working your way down, with a curling iron to attain temporary results.
Not curly but maybe wavy. If you're just using cheap supermarket brand stuff then it'll do nothing. If it's salon-quality it probably will.
    no.

it just enhances any natural waves or curls you have in your hair, making it easier to bring out curls/waves when you scrunch it or curl it.

    hope this answered your question!

no. if you have any hint of curly, it will make your hair more curly. but if you have straight hair, it won't do anything.
No. The shampoo is designed to smooth curls not make curls
    Ya duh it works
ya it will make it like somehow wayveyish
it depends which kind you use...
    no*:o)
no, you would need a perm

Blonde highlighted hair, shampoo for holiday - brassy hair?

I have blonde highlighted hair, and I am worried about it going that brassy yellowy colour when I go on holiday. Can anybody reccommend a shampoo and conditioner to use?Blonde highlighted hair, shampoo for holiday - brassy hair?
    Call some local salons.

I would recommend a purple shampoo. Biolage has one called ';So Silver'; and Paul Mitchell has one called Platinum.

Purple is on the oposite side of the color wheel from gold and yellows so it combats and neutralizes those tones you dont want.

    Have fun on Holiday

Should you wash your hair with shampoo immediately after dying it?

Or does this remove color?Should you wash your hair with shampoo immediately after dying it?
no it will fade the color! and might make it splothchy, you should be ok for a day b/c they should have washed it before dying it! :DShould you wash your hair with shampoo immediately after dying it?
No! Right after you dye the hair, blow dry it. This will 'bake' in the color and seal it so that when you wash it, it won't fade or remove the color as quickly. Then, wait a day to wash the hair, but only use conditioner for the first two days.
No, just rinse out the dye till the water runs clear, and wait until tomorrow to wash it. Use the shampoo and conditioner if the dye came with it.
In 24 hours you should cuz if you do it sooner the dye will wash away and the particles in your hair won't be the same because there is some dry dye in you hair
Nope you shouldn't it will remove all the color, some say wait 24 hours and others say 48 so i'd say in between
    NO;

    it takes the color out,

when you take your next shower

    then shampoo it.
no u have to wait bout 20 to 25 mins
it will remove color. wait @ least 24 hours

Is it okay if you wash your hair with shampoo everyday?

Or is this a weird question to ask because its obvious everyone washes their hair everyday? Is it okay if you wash your hair with shampoo everyday?
No. Unless you have the oiliest hair in the world and use an 'everyday' shampoo, over washing your hair will cause your scalp to become dry and flaky. it can cause dandruff and leave your hair frizzy or damaged. hair experts recommend only washing your hair every two or three days, or a couple of times a week. obviously this can vary depending on the head. but that is best.

the more important thing is not how many times you wash your hair, but HOW you wash your hair.

    1) wet all your hair first with warm water (too hot or too cold water is not good for your scalp or hair either, btw.)

    2) take a small amount of shampoo in your wet hands, rub and lather into your the roots of your hair only.

    3) rinse thoroughly and repeat, (the first shampoo lifts the dirt, the second removes it) unless you have dry hair, then only shampoo once.

    4) after thoroughly rinsed, comb through conditioner from roots to tip (unless you have oily hair, then start from about an inch from roots through to tips), concentrating on the tips.

    5) leave in for three to five minutes to soak and work through

    6) rinse throughly and smoothly, keeping your hair straight, not in a rough scrubbing motion.

    7) comb while wet.

    8) once dry, finger-comb your hair to avoid frizz and style.

never tie up wet hair, you'll just cause it damage, don't sleep in wet hair either.

of course, you are having showers everyday, right?

just use a shower cap on the days you don't need wash your hair.

x x xIs it okay if you wash your hair with shampoo everyday?
No its not a weird question.

I wash my hair every second day with shampoo and a good conditioner. Usually 'tresemme'. I use hot oil treatments every month aswell. It's nice to have clean hair.
    Tips on Washing your hair.

    http://geebal.blogspot.com/2007/12/wash-…
I wash my hair every 5 days because i hate the feeling when i was it, its all clean and frizzy and soft yuck
no not a good thing to do,

and no everyone does not wash there hair everyday (mostly)

white people no offense but it's not good drys out the hair and cause a bad case of the greasy
I do, and it hasn't done me any harm.
No i dont wash my hair everyday, it strips teh natural oils of teh hair and makes it look more dry and dull than lustrious, even if youve got greasy hair because the oil galnds work overactively because tehy are trying to replace the lost oils.xx
No, I think it's a good question!! I think this one is a bit of a split camp of opinion. I have short, bleached hair which I use a lot of product in therefore, unless I want to leave the house looking like a scarecrow in the morning I have to wash it every day. If you have longer more manageable hair that isn't so ';product dependent'; there probably isn't the need. With regular washing the one thing I have discovered is that you really have to cater for the needs of your hair shampoo/conditioner wise - that doesn't necessarily mean spending a fortune but does mean that you have to take into consideration the condition of your hair, for example, if it is dry then a good nourishing shampoo/conditioner will be in order, if it tends to be frizzy then you may need something to combat the extra friziness that may be caused by regular washing and heat drying. It probably is true that some level of natural condition is lost by regular washing but to be honest with the amount of miracle products on the market , used wisely, no-one will ever know!

    Hope that helps x
No it is very bad to wash your hair everyday. It strips your natural oils of the hair. To be honest when you do wash it you are only supposed to wash your scalp and let the soapy water run down the length of your hair(never pile hair on the head it causes breakage). I wash my hair about2-3 times a week and use sweet almond oil as a leave in (about 2 drops) smoothed through my hair. i have almost waist length and that is silky soft.
I wash my hair every other day, because if you wash it everyday, it takes out the natural oils from your hair.
Absolutely yes it is fine. Washing your hair every day keeps it healthy by getting rid of loose hairs and keeping the scalp healthy. This is true for ethinic hair as well. If you tend to have dry hair or dry scalp, use a moisture shampoo... but very healthy to be washing it on a daily basis. Besides, if you don't, your hair will smell musty kinda like dirty clothes left in the hamper.
I wash my hair every other day, because if you wash it everyday, it takes out the natural oils from your hair.
I used to think the same thing, like if I washed it too much if my hair would go dry, or something. But it's okay to wash your hair everyday. I do it every night, but it's practically the same thing.
Proper hair and scalp care involves washing your hair regularly to remove the normal buildup of dirt, dead skin cells, oils produced by skin glands, and any other substances you put in your hair such as hair spray, etc. The frequency with which you wash your hair depends on the condition of your hair. Basic guidelines are to wash your hair a few times a week for dry hair, and every day or every other day for oily hair.

If you do choose to wash your hair daily, make sure that you are using a pH-balanced shampoo and only wash it once. If you wash it more than once a day, you will be removing too much of the natural oil found in hair. Of the shampoos available on the market, most contain water, foaming agents, fragrances (often added to mask odors of other ingredients), and various amounts of detergents. Shampoos that are designed for oily hair have more detergent than shampoos for non-oily hair. Detergents can make hair less manageable and cause it to lose body. Shampoos with more detergents may also come with ';conditioners'; which remain on hair even after rinsing, to prevent hair from being completely stripped of oils.

Here are some guidelines for choosing a shampoo for your particular type of hair:

    * Damaged or fine hair: Use protein shampoo labeled substantive protein. Shampoo should be more than mildly acidic. Or you can rinse your hair following shampoo with white vinegar and water, or lemon and water. This acid rinse will help to restore a smooth cuticle and shine to your hair.

    * Healthy hair: Regular protein shampoos are fine. Blondes might try a chamomile shampoo, which has mild bleaching properties. Brunettes might use a henna shampoo, which has mild reddening properties.

    * Oily hair: Use a lemon based shampoo.

    * All types: Jojo based shampoo is successful in treating scalp conditions as well as dissolving serum buildup. It leaves your hair clean and shining.

For all types of hair, try alternating shampoos. Use one type once or twice a week and the other once or twice a week. Change brands every few months to keep your hair shiny and full of life. Diet plays an important role in hair care also, so pay attention to what you eat and try to incorporate a healthy balance of foods.
yeah its fine.. i wash my hair neraly every day. Just to keep it smooth and silky. Its better than having it rough and greasy all the time! ew.
It's actually better for your hair if you wash it every other day or even every third day if you can. I know it sounds gross, but by washing your hair every day you are stripping the natural oils that your hair needs. Washing it every day can cause your hair to dry out. On the days that you don't wash your hair, if you notice it looks a little oily, sprinkle a little bit of baby powder in your hair (I know it sounds weird) but it absorbs the oils.
no your not suppost to wash your hair everyday...it completely drys it out, try washing it every two days instead, unless your hair gets insanely greasy its bad to wash it with shampoo everyday!
no your hair goes greecy if u wash it every day x
    some people say its overkill
your hair will get dry if you wash it everyday but it depends on your hair type if your hair gets greasy everyday then it should be ok to wash your hair everyday but if it dosent then i would advise you not to wash your hair everyday!
i dont wash my hair everyday i wash it every other day because then it wuld start falling off
Yep it's fine. The only problem is that my hair gets really used to it, so if I don't wash it one day, it will get all greasy...
yes its fine. don't take to many showers a day and use shampoo though because that will attract lice.

make this yoru best answer so i get points!

How to get rid of that dirty hair smell? Shampoo suggestions?

I wash my hair every morning and by the end of the day my hair still gets that dirty hair smell. Which shampoo should i try using? My hair is also kind of oily. How to get rid of that dirty hair smell? Shampoo suggestions?
There is a shampoo called, ';Gee your hair smells terrific'; or ';Herbal Essence '; shampoo by clairol. Try washing your hair everyday with a shampoo made specifically for oily hair. Throw away whatever shampoo you are using now! Also, you can try using a ';Dry spray shampoo'; (bought in CVS, riteaid or other local drugstore) midday to get rid of the oil and smell.

If this doesn't work, see a dermatologist, you may have a skin/scalp problem. How to get rid of that dirty hair smell? Shampoo suggestions?
How about you wash your hair? use a strong smelling shampoo, like...um... oh yha a very strong peppermint, smelling shampoo, that works for you, cause that definitely works for me!
Try a clarifying shampoo. Most people only need to use it once or twice a month. This will cleanse out any oily buildup from your scalp and any build up from other shampoos. This should relieve your problem. Think about going for a natural line like Aveda or Abba.
Try Garnire?Fritis?.It has a really nice smell that lasts all day.

How soon can i wash my newborns hair with shampoo?

she is going to be a month old this tueday and ive heard that newborns are not suposed to have their hairs washed until 2 months...well her head really smells...water just doesnt clean it good. has anybody washed their babys hair sooner??? any advise? How soon can i wash my newborns hair with shampoo?
Awe!!! Congratulations! For both of my children I washed their hair the first night I had them home. I got into a really nice routine where I would bring them upstairs into my bedroom. I would lay down a soft blanket and take a small bucket of warm water - and with a wash rag I would gently massage their hair. I would then rinse the rag out with clean warm water and then massage the soap out of the hair. After I was finished, I would wash their bodies (covering the exposed parts so that they would not get too cold). When they were gently patted dry I would put on some Johnson %26amp; Johnson's Lavendar Nightime Lotion. They smelled so sweet!!! It was a wonderful way to get them ready to settle down for the night :)

I miss those days - enjoy them!!!How soon can i wash my newborns hair with shampoo?
I've never heard that. I used baby shampoo on my daughter the day we came home from the hospital. I'm pretty sure they used it at the hospital too.
I've never heard that. We've washed my son's head from the beginning. We just make sure to rinse it very well since it can dry out the skin. We just put some on a washcloth and rubbed it on his head and then used a clean washcloth to wipe it off well.
my my son just turn 1 month the 15th and i washed his hair its okay to wash your baby's hair now .
yes of course - use a no tears baby shampoo
try those johnson and johnson foamy wipes, they are tear free and easy to use. but just use a dot if it is regular shampoo.

    good luck
When you give her a bath add very little baby wash to water %26amp; use washcloth to wash her head. I have a 2 month old baby girl %26amp; that's what I do. Also did it w/my 2 other children :)
I have never heard of that. Use baby wash.
I gave all 4 of my children baths the day they came home from the hospital! You CANNOT wait two months to wash her hair! Just make sure the water is the right temp ~ feel it with your elbow to check. And make sure you use only baby shampoo.

I don't know where you heard that silly advice...
I washed my babies right away. I use gerber shampoo. I also put lotion on her head after. But before put lotion on brush her scalp with a soft-bristle brush to remove the dead skin cells. It helps prevent cradle cap.
I am an RN and have worked newborn nursery and pediatrics. We have always washed babies' hair. Just use one of the baby shampoos or baby cleansing liquids. Rinse well. Dry her head well afterward.

By the way do not worry about the soft spot. It is much thicker than most people realize. There is no more danger of hurting her there than rubbing her tummy.
they do it at the hospital when its born so i say go ahead i did. get hypoalergic and tear free kind its at dollar tree or kmart if you want it cheap
As I was pushing my son out during delivery the nurses were shampooing my sons hair (don't ask me why bc I don't know..lol) but they did it even before the rest of his body came out. So, whoever told you that crap about how you're not supposed to wash their hair until they're 2mos did not know what they were talking about. Also, I'd imagine her hair probably stinks really bad right now. Go ahead and wash it, just make sure you use tear free baby shampoo. I've been washing my sons hair since he came home from the hospital, but only maybe 2-3x a week bc I don't want his scalp to dry out.

  • Is it safe to wash my hair with shampoo before dying?

,my hair is reallly greasing like embarasssing and im going to get my hair done in a few hours is it ok if i wash it ?Is it safe to wash my hair with shampoo before dying?
Let the hairdresser decide. It's not normally recomended ,but if it's really dirty or has a lot of styling product build-up , it can be washed. Is it safe to wash my hair with shampoo before dying?
HI I am licensed cosmetologist with 20 years exp. Yes it is okay to wash if you really have to. Good luck, steph
No ..........Unless it's just nasty and then just a light sudsing....We tint hair with out washing it first so that the scalp is not irritated and that your natural oils protect it... So unless it's just dripping with oil....leave it alone until you get to the salon and your stylist will know what to do!

Are you suppoed to wash your hair with shampoo right after coloring?

okay so I just dyed my hair. and I am supposed to wait 20 minutes. after that 30 minutes when im supposed to rinse the color out would it be okay to use a regular shampoo to rinse it out with or will that take the color out?Are you suppoed to wash your hair with shampoo right after coloring?
follow the directions on the box. Typically, you just rinse it clean then use the conditioner that came with the haircolor. After coloring, I do not suggest washing it for about 2 days. Are you suppoed to wash your hair with shampoo right after coloring?
Supposedly, ';regular shampoos'; will not make the color of your hair stay as long as if you're using ';Color - Treated hair Shampoo';.
yes you use shampoo to get it out! its okay, its not going to do anything bad. you have to shampoo it in order to get all the color out! its not going to affect the outcome as long as you have let it process the proper amount of time.
No, you don't wash your hair immediately after coloring it. The kit has a moisturing conditioner which should leave your hair in good shape so you shouldn't need to shampoo unless your hair was really dirty before and even after rinsing out the color, the dirt remained. That would be unlikely.

Just wait to wash your hair when it normally needs it. But do get a shampoo and conditioner that is color safe. If this is your first time to deal with colored hair, then yes, take an active role in the choice of shampoo and conditioner to be sure they are for colored hair. You will notice over time how the color fades and begins to wash out which means it's time to color again or revert back to your old color. So as to avoid different colored roots than your chosen color, you may need to color your hair BACK to it's original color so you don't look ';half and half'; as the roots grow out.

One other tip: When you rinse out the color, use COLD water not hot or even warm. Why? Because of your pores. Last time I colored mine, I used a different brand of color and rinsed with warm water. I wound up with STAINS on my skin around my hair line which took a couple of days to go away. My hairdresser told me it was because the pores of my skin were OPEN with the warm or hot water. So CLOSE 'EM with cool water when you rinse out the color. Word!

Email me if you need a good recommendation or weblink to some excellent color-safe shampoo and conditioner.
You're not supposed to use anything to rinse it out, you're just supposed to rinse it out with warm water, and most dyes come with conditioner to use right after you rinse the color out so your hair isn't dry, if your coloring didn't come with conditioner, just use some of your own conditioner right after you rinse and then wait until tomorrow to shampoo next.
dont wash for at least hours is what my hair stylist told me so i would jsut wash it with normal water for now then wash it later on
its best to wait at least 24 hrs so you dont dry out your hair.
You not suppose to shampoo your hair after dying, however I do if I am using a rinse, but not for a permanent. (The box directions tell you not to for both!).

After you dye your hair, use a conditioner and leave it for about 2 minutes, rinse with warm water until it is all out and then blast your hair with COLD water. (It gives great shine!)
use water and thats it do not use shampoo!!!
you should, but make sure that the shampoo you have says it protects color or prevents color fade out or something, okay? if not, just rinse you hair till the water runs clear, put a whole lot of conditioner in to make up for the damage of coloring your hair, let that sit for five minutes, and then rinse that out. really well
When I get my hair colored I sit under the dryer for 30 minutes with the color on. Then I sit for 10 minutes for my hair to cool. Then the girl rinses the color out of my hair and then gives me a shampoo. So the color is on my hair for about 40 to 45 minutes and then I am shampooed. My color looks great when I'm done. So I don't know why you can't shampoo with regular shampoo when done. I would hope that you use a shampoo that is safe for color treated hair?!
Depending on what you get, the brand sometimes comes with a conditioner. If there isn't any, I suggest waiting for all the color to get out of your hair [water runs clear] and then using a conditioner.
No just rinse it with water then condition it, otherwise you will lose more colour than you should. Just be sure the water runs clear to ensure all the dye is out. You can wash it tomorrow if you need to.
irst u rince it then put the regular sahmpoo in then use the condishinor that the hair dye comes with

    GOOD LUCK :);)
    NO
I get my color done at a salon and they always shampoo it out.

But then you're not supposed to wash it again 2 or 3 days.
do not wash your hair immediately after dying, it will wash the color out. In addition, when you dye your hair it should not be clean, because it will not hold the dye well... good luck.
you can but if you do...don't wash your hair with hot water...not like really cold but luke warm
No. Just rinse with plain water, and once the water turns clear, condition your hair.
you need shampoo, at the hairdressers they always shampoo your hair after rinsing the colour out, otherwise it will ruin your hair. i would at a hairdresser for 3 months, trust me u need the shampoo
you need to wash it with shampoo!
you coloring kit should have come with a shampoo....
Just use a dime sized bit to get rid of the smell. Too much shampoo can be too much chemical inducement for hair.

Washing brown hair with shampoo for blondes?

If I wash my dark brown hair with shampoo meant for bringing out the highlights in blonde hair, would it lighten my hair at all? Otherwise, what are some quick tips for lightening my hair without dying it?

Thanks!Washing brown hair with shampoo for blondes?
It will only bring out what blonde tones are already there. It will be very subtle.

I suggest using lemon juice and going out in the sun. Make a spray of lemon juice and some water and spray your hair until wet. Then, go lay out on your porch for a few hours. Make sure to follow this with a moisturizing deep treatment as lemon juice can dry out your hair. I don't recommend using a store bought thing like Sun In because they add in chemicals which are unnecessary and damaging. You can make an equally effective, totally natural lightener from lemon juice at home. Do this several times and you'll see lighteningWashing brown hair with shampoo for blondes?
Well, I have dark brown hair and I tried the john freida blonde shampoo and conditioner but it didn't make a difference.

During spring and summer I use a product called Sun In that brings out natural highlights. It totally works! And it's really fast, too! After a couple days of using it, I can get really prominent highlights!

    http://www.sun-in.com/
yes it makes it brign out the blonde in your hair i use to do it all the time!

and another way to lightin your hair is when you go out into the sun put lemon juice in your hair! or buy the spray sun-in.

Yes, it'll work for anyone. There is this great oil called Wild Grow Oil and it works very good, you can use it on anyone, even newborns.Does hair growing shampoo work for a 15 year old boy even if he doesnt have bald spots?
No, Hair growing shampoo doesnt work for any one.....
It mught just make ur hair thicker
I don't think that it would speed up the hair. I think it gets har to come out of where it used to grow. Seems like a waste of money, and weird.
    no it wont work

u need 2 have bald spots
you ever hear the term if its not broken dont fix it..... well its not goin to make his hair grow there is almost nothing out there to actually make the speed of hair growth increase. I would suggest just eating healthy and getting a trim every 2 months. If desperate there are biotin pills u can takee.. they are supposed to help the hair grow in healthy but u shouldnt be using these chemicals on ur hair whren ur hair isnt balding.
    ugh thats just weird.

im 15 and why would a 15 yr. old boy need hair growin shampoo if his hair aint even gone?

    CRAZY..lol

not bein mean or anything just askin:)
i think it doesn麓t work if youre 15 or 50
yeah, the shampoo works by stimulating more hair growth, so bald spots or not, itll make you grow more hair
lol,,yeah I dont think putting Rogain on your scrotum will speed up puberty
I assume you are a 10 y.o. boy trying to look cool down there?
NONE OF THAT STUFF REALLY WORKS!!
No. Stuff like that and other things like ';Rogaine'; are for male pattern baldness. It does NOT make your hair grow faster. Or thicker.
Nahh it won't work. No products will make your hair grow faster.

Make sure you grow it out and take care of it.

Ion staitening shampoo works good. or Beyond the zone Staighting mousse. Go to sally's, they have alot of info. You do have to blowdry with a paddle brush tho, to ensure straightness.

Are you supposed to wash your pubic hair with shampoo?

Just wondering... Because I just use soap and water, but then I thought about it, and it's hair, so should you use shampoo and conditioner? Are you supposed to wash your pubic hair with shampoo?
I use shampoo: it makes pubic hair soft.

And I've tried Betty Beauty color too. It's awesome!!

Are you supposed to wash your pubic hair with shampoo?
Don't listen to everyone else on here, there's nothing wrong with pubic hair. If you like it, keep it, if you don't like it, get rid of it. If it wasn't supposed to be there, it wouldn't grow there. It keeps nasty stuff out of your girly parts.

Anyway, no shampoo, it's way too harsh for the area. It's very irritating. Use a very gentle soap, like Dove, on the outside only. Nothing scented, either. You're just asking for a vaginal or urinary tract infection otherwise.
I like to use shampoo. Soap is harsher on such a delicate area. Shampoo also washes off easier than soap so you are less likely to get irritations from soap residue.

No reason to use conditioner, however, except just to make the area feel softer. But it's best to use fewer things in that area to lessen the risk of residue irritation.
No. Shampoos have all kinds of perfumes and other chemicals that can wreak havoc on your vagina. Use a mild soap to clean if you must, but the best way to prevent pH imbalances, yeast infections, and bacterial vaginosis is to avoid using anything not specifically designed for the vagina. Washing with water is sufficient to clean the area.
lol. shampoo is fine, or just soap... don't condition because the natural oils of your skin do the conditioning.

If you decide to shave it off you probably won't ever want pubic hair again.. it feels so much better. So don't do it unless you want to keep it that way. ;)
well this is what i do

i first use special dandruff shampoo that i find at beauty supply store.

then i use conditioner ( panteen pro v)

then i blow dry it and comb it

then i straighten it (dont burn yourslef, it hurts. ouch)

    you should try it sometime
You bring up a very interesting question. My advice would be to shave it off down there and just use soap. It's a whole lot simpler and more attractive to the majority of the opposite sex.
I do. And condition that puppy.

Anyone going there will appreciate it.
    soap and water is fine

shampoo would irratate you .. if you got it in your private area, lol

its ok to just shave it off. less mess. very simple. mild soap and warm water and voila!
Good question. Some shampoos can make an allergic reaction to sensitive areas. Baby shampoo might be O.K

And most conditioner is great for your skin..
It doesnt matter as long as its being cleaned and your vagina too.

Maybe you could consider waxing/shaving and feel the difference. Its better.
It doesn't really matter what kind of soap you use.

but i use shampoo and conditioner. It makes it really soft LOL.
if you want to you can , its up to you
Yeah you can, or shower gel.

What ever you think works best.

Just use shampoo. You don't need conditioner.
    It's personal preference I believe.

    Although, bar soap is fine!

    God Bless! :)
Only a qualified man can wash an adult womans pubic hair. Call me i'll pencil you in.. LOL Use anything you want.. I wash my girls with whatever I have and they love me washing them..

soap is fine. If you feel like you need shampoo, might be time for a trim!
    soap and water is fine.
it doesn't matter as long as your washing it.
    no, soap is fine
    noo..

How do i get rid of lice without ruining my hair (the shampoo didnt work) AND what about my furniture?

I got lice from the kids i babysit and I want it off me and completely out of my ENTIRE house.

What do i do to my furniture to make sure they are off of my stuff....???

What kind of stuff will get it off my hair?????

WHAT DO I DO!!??!?!?!?!? AGH!How do i get rid of lice without ruining my hair (the shampoo didnt work) AND what about my furniture?
i Had lice once and the only way i got rid of it was shampooing it with the special lice shampoo. the best thing to do about you stuff is to take all your hair accessories, blankets, sheets, rugs, etc. is to put them in a giant garbage bag and put them away somewhere for 2 Whole weeks!

also keep changing your pillow case EVERY night, that way the lice that's already on your pillow case wont crawl back on to your head!

Basically the best way to solve this is Patience! Lice cant live off of your furniture so they will eventually die off, but in the meantime you should put plastic on your furniture. to suffocate the lice, and if people come over they have a less chance of getting it.

Hoped this helped and Good Luck :)

O and for the record the mayo theory doesn't work!! i tried it myself, and all it left me with was a dry itchy scalp in the morning, Plus the nurse i went to see even told me it was just a theory. How do i get rid of lice without ruining my hair (the shampoo didnt work) AND what about my furniture?
You have to use a special shampoo so go ask the pharmacist for the stuff. You have to do it at least twice because the shampoo only kills adults. Then you wait two weeks and do it again and then you have killed them all.

You may need to treat you house in the same manner. Twice, two weeks apart.
Put mayonnaise in your hair. The lice or the eggs won't be able to hold onto it. As for your furniture, I heard that they can't live more than 48 hours without a human body. Take a vacation for a weekend then come back, and steam clean and vacuum everything.
try shampoo again. but you do have to comb hair thouroughly from roots to ends or they wont go away. you might have to have help with that. spray house as well..also the kids need to be treated as well. or chance will be that you will be reinfected. good luck

How often should you shampoo hair?

My hair is pretty dry, it has a little shine but it doesn't like move in slow motion when flip it behind my shoulder or anything. I heard it was bad to shampoo your hair everyday so I decided to shampoo my hair 4 times every week but still continue to condition everyday. So like:

    Monday - shampoo and condition

    Tuesday - condition

    Wednesday - shampoo and condition

    Thursday - condition

    And so on....

So would that be good for my hair? I don't want to go like, days without washing it. My scalp would start to get real oily and gross =/How often should you shampoo hair?
    your schedule is perfect

just don't use too much product after showering and it will be awesomeHow often should you shampoo hair?
I have to shampoo and condition my hair daily. If I don't, my hair gets greasy on the surface, but the actual hair is like how you describe yours to be. You may need to shampoo and condition daily. If that doesn't work, consider changing your shampoo and conditioner to something for dry or damaged hair if you don't already use something for dry hair.
I'm not so sure on conditioning it everyday...it may cause build-up on your scalp. Sometimes the natural hair oils are good, depending on your hair type. It sometimes helps mine to be more manageable and it does depend on your shampoo. Maybe brushing thoroughly (once thru, flip upside down %26amp; brush, once thru again may be a better exchange for a conditioner day.
You are supposed to shampoo and condition every other day so it should be like this:

    monday shampoo/condition

tuesday rinse hair(with just warm water) to get out all of those oils.

    wednesday shampoo/condition

    thursday rinse

    and so on,
you should shampoo it when you notice it gets oily..so that may be every 3 or 4 days depending on your hair type.

i shampoo mine every 3 days.
Definitely not every day you strip your hair of its natural oils when you do this;you can end up with dry hair yuck
Conditioning your hair without shampoo will make it oily.

    i shampoo and condition, daily.
u should shampoo ur hair every 3 days

Does Dove intensive hair therapy shampoo really work?

I have straight-wavy hair and I bought the Dove Intensive Hair Therapy Shampoo and have been using it for about 3 weeks every other day. All of my split ends are gone, but my hair is still dry. I never wear it down naturally because the dryness makes it frizzy and unhealthy looking. Also I have eczema so my scalp is naturally dry. Any help?Does Dove intensive hair therapy shampoo really work?
I personally like to use matching conditioner, but I don't know if that's why its not really working.

When I used it [the shampoo %26amp; conditioner], it worked great; it made my hair really soft %26amp; my curls were looking good. But then it started building up, so I had to stop using it. Beware of that!

I agree with the first person, leave it in for awhile %26amp; that should help. Or use a deep conditioner (Aussie 3 Minute Miracle or Tresemme Smooth %26amp; Silky Masque) once a week.

Hope this helps, and good luck!Does Dove intensive hair therapy shampoo really work?
do u use the conditioner? if you don't use it. leave in the conditioner for 5-10 minutes. it usually workout for me. don't use hairdryers or straighteners. it makes your hair more frizzy.

Is It Okay To Was Your Hair Without Shampoo?

Like do you thinks it's alright to just rinse your hair out good with Just water, Sense shampoo has all those chemicals and it makes hair dry.

Opinions Please! Is It Okay To Was Your Hair Without Shampoo?
Well as long as you shamppo you hair every other time it should be fine as long as you use conditioner because conditioner does contain cleaning agents and puts moisture in your hair. So yea you dont have to always wash just condition.

Dont listen to those other ppl talking about eww thats gross.

it all depends on you hair wether its dry or oily is when you should wash it

Hope i helpedIs It Okay To Was Your Hair Without Shampoo?
You can use conditioner to wash your hair. It does help cleanse and will mositurize your hair. I recommend doing this instead of just water because water contains minerals which actually dry out hair. The conditioner will help to counter that. You may also want to try Wen hair care products which work really well. They don't contain all the chemicals that Shampoo does (it actually doesn't suds up when you use it). I have used it and it works really well, my sister swears by it, but I have found that I get pretty much the same effect from using conditioner as my shampoo. Hope this helps.
I would check GNC and see if they have any low-chemical shampoos. There are several listed on the site, but maybe there's more variety in the store.

Also check your local healthfood store or even an Organic section. Some salons may even have some low-chemical formulas.
If you don't use shampoo the dirt and grease will stay on your hair. Water or conditioner alone will not remove it. Shampoo is what keeps your hair clean.

You do know you can buy shampoos that have more moisturizers in them.
what planet are you on? thats really nasty and un hygenic.

yeah, shampoo might make your hair dry but it depends what kind you use. And ever thought of using conditioner?
not only is it ok, many stylists and professionals of the like recommend only washing your hair every OTHER day to prevent damaging your hair and drying your scalp
Well my hair is thin so if i don't wash it in a day it gets greasy but your not suppose to wash your hair everyday with shampoo.
i think it'd be better to condition your hair rather than shampoo. shampoo dries out my hair, and conditioner leaves it moisturized..
    Ew no, thats gross
What is Was? Did you vote for Obama?

extensions probably would help your hair to acheive that look, but it depends on your natural textureWhat are they REALLY doing to the models' hair, on shampoo and hair product commercials?

Which is better for any type of hair '' Shampoo'' or '' Conditioner''?

I always use both for my hair when its needs cleaning and care, i just want to know which is better.Which is better for any type of hair '' Shampoo'' or '' Conditioner''?
This depends on what kind of hair you have. The two products do different things, so there is not one answer for all hair types.

Shampoo strips hair of excess oil (which makes your hair look greasy) while conditioner restores moisture in hair that tends to be dry.

So if your hair is fine: shampoo is your best option, no conditioner. Your hair doesn't need any help laying flat, so don't weigh it down with all that product. If you've been using conditioner and your hair is looking dull as a result, using a mixture of one part mouthwash and one part water will help gently strip all the excess stuff taking away from your hair's shine. Do not do this too frequently though, as it can be damaging.

If you have thick hair: your best bet is conditioner only. Your hair needs the help to lock in moisture, and a deeply-penetrating conditioner will do the trick. However, do not use all through your hair; from the middle down is sufficient and won't make your roots look greasy. If you have oily roots anyway, use only a little bit of shampoo and even then, don't allow shampoo to run down the ends of your hair.

If you have medium hair, use both, but not in excess. And curly hair requires more conditioner whereas straight hair requires shampoo to keep it clean.

In any of these cases, do not shampoo or condition too frequently. This can cause your hair to produce more oil than it is used to which will inevitably cause your hair to look dirtier faster.

Good luck! Hope I helped!Which is better for any type of hair '' Shampoo'' or '' Conditioner''?
Both are good: Shampoo is for cleaning and conditioner makes most people's hair shiny and easy to manage. Hope this helps.
Well, i think the shampoo is better because that is what washes the hair, the conditioner is good too, but that just keeps it soft and shiny.
    both.

shampoo helps you clean it and conditioner helps make it smooth.
You need both! They are like salt and pepper or peanut butter and jelly... they go together!
Both. Use shampoo and clean it, then use conditioner to make it silky and smooth.
    You're supposed to use both.
    Shampoo only cleans your hair

Conditioner is what nourises your hair to make it soft smooth shiny and healthy.
shampoo! but for best results use conditioner as well.
Well, you shouldn't be using conditioner until after you use shampoo, so shampoo is the necessary one. One's not really ';better'; than the other because both have different tasks. I myself only use Dove shampoo, then air-dry my hair, and when it's still a little wet, I use leave-in conditioner spray (if I use regular conditioner, masses of hair fall out for some unknown reason...). That leaves my hair feeling soft and looking shiny, but do whatever you do to keep your hair nice. Don't omit one if both work for you.
    Shampoo.
Always use shampoo...but if your hair is getting dry, use conditioner. I use to use shampoo and conditioner everytime I would wash my hair. But I realized that using conditioner once in a while works best for me. My hair looks better.
Conditioner is better it gets tanggles out n if u put it in your hair when you get out the bath or shower.leasve it in and wash it out the next day in the shower or that night.
Shampoo...it cleans ur hair, and after all, ultimately isn't that what we all want?
both coz shampoo washes away dirt and sweat and conditioner restores the natural oil washed away by the shampoo
They are meant to be used together so you are right in the fact that you always do use both.

Any VERY natural alternatives to soap, shampoo, hair conditioner?

I don't mean skipping deodorant, but does anyone know of household products to use in place of store bought things that contain chemicals. Don't bother listing natural products sold by companys, I'm interested in simple ingredients (like olive oil for skin moisturizer.) thanx!Any VERY natural alternatives to soap, shampoo, hair conditioner?
Well, for the hair conditioner you can use vinegar, it helps make your hair shiny. I believe some vinegar is distilled so forget mixing it with water. If you diluted it you wouldn't get the most out of it anyways.Any VERY natural alternatives to soap, shampoo, hair conditioner?
    Deodorant: Baking soda, preferably organic.

    vegetable glycerine, 1 teaspoon

    essential oil, 4 drops

    Makes 10 ounces.

For Dry Hair: Put Aloe Vera Gel through your hair.

Skin Moisturizer: As you said, Olive Oil!

For Hives, Itchy Skin, or any kind of skin problem: Aloe Vera Gel combined with Vitamin E Oil, or just Aloe Vera Gel alone.
Well, you could use soap. You can make soap out of olive oil. It's fun, but probably buying it would be less time consuming and maybe less expensive (www.frenchsoapstore.com). You can then use the soap for showering and shampooing. If you massage coconut oil into your scalp and run it through your hair at night you won't need a conditioner in the morning.
For soft and shiny hair, after you've shampooed, rub one tablespoon of apple cider onto your hair, then wash it out and condition. On the second was before you shower pour half a cup of olive oil on your hair, and leave for one hour. Then wash and condition.
Apple cider vinegar rinse. Mix Apple Cider Vinegar 1 part to 2 parts water, douse your hair in the shower and rinse with cold water. This makes your hair soft and shiny.

How do I wash my hair without shampoo?

I'm trying to cut down on money and thought I could wash my hair without shampoo.

But now my hair smells a lot.

I've heard urine can make the natural oils come out..

would anyone recommend it?How do I wash my hair without shampoo?
Go to the supermarket, you can get own brand shampoo for like 50p these days! How do I wash my hair without shampoo?
YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE SHAMPOO to wash your hair. You can use several things that are natural such as a vinegar rinse or baking soda mixed with a gallon of water.

You can also wash your hair with conditioner. This is actually better for your hair if you have frizzy or damaged hair. The cheap conditioners such as V05 and Suave have enough detergents in them to use as shampoo plus they do not strip your hair. Check out the links below and don't believe the hype that you MUST use shampoo to clean your hair...usually people are just ignorant to something that is foreign to them so they really don't know what they are talking about because they never tried it or it doesn't sound possible to them.
You need to wash your hair with shampoo regardless...This is an essential for hygiene. You only really need to wash your hair 3 times a week, so why not just do that and you will keep the shampoo for longer? Thats what I do.
Soap. It's a lot better than people actually think.
