Can I use hair shampoo in my steam cleaner as opposed to carpet shampoo?

Would it work just as well? Can I use hair shampoo in my steam cleaner as opposed to carpet shampoo?
No way man. Hair shampoo lather's up much more than carpet shampoo and could be next to impossible to remove shampoo residue from your carpets. Also it definantely won't work as well as hair shampoo. Hair shampoo is made to be gentle on your skin and carpet shampoo is strong stuff that eats away deep grease and dirt from your carpets. I HAVE USED VINEGAR AND WATER QUITE SUCCESSFULLY. This is a great choice if you are looking for something safer for children or pets. Can I use hair shampoo in my steam cleaner as opposed to carpet shampoo?
I was thinking of trying that, too! I swear I read somewhere that you could do that. I don't like all the extra chemicals they put in carpet shampoo (the stain repellent ones are really bad for human health). And I don't like the expense of carpet shampoo either. I've hand washed clothes with shampoo in a pinch and I think carpet is made of similar fiber--I could be wrong. I'll be checking back to see what people say.
Good grief, no. carpet cleaning agents are low sudsing and with solvents just for the kind of dirt that is on carpeting. Hair shampoo is different solvents to remove a differnet type of dirt.
Unless your carpet is made out of hair, I would stick to the carpet shampoo. Too much suds with hair shampoo.
Ive used laundry liquid soap just fine so I think it would not be harnful BUT not as effective since carpet fibers are not same make as fabric.
absolutely NO. It will gum up the works and never come out of your carpet.
I would not use Hair shampoo...but if you looking for a good alternative....i heard years ago that windex was originally formulated as a carpet cleaner...I use it as spot treatments all the time...or you could you a warm water/white vinger mixture...no harsh chemicals there...and that's what my floor guy recommends for my tile.
